Why Small Tile Adhesive Manufacturers Cannot Afford to Skip Third-Party Testing

Asitkumar Roy 5 min read2024-09-10

India's tile adhesive market has hundreds of manufacturers operating at small to mid scale, many with in-house quality control teams. Yet independent third-party testing remains the exception rather than the norm for this segment. This creates both regulatory exposure and business risk.

In-House Testing Is Not Enough

Even well-resourced in-house labs face a fundamental credibility problem: self-reported results cannot be offered to clients as independent evidence of product performance. Architects, project consultants, and large contractors increasingly require third-party test certificates before approving a product for use on significant projects.

The Cost of a Callback

A single tile debonding claim on a large commercial project can cost far more than a year's worth of testing. Independent test documentation provides a defensible paper trail that the product met the specified performance criteria at the time of supply.

Export and Institutional Markets

If you are targeting government housing projects, export to GCC markets, or institutional clients, IS certification and third-party test reports are often contractual requirements. Starting that process early means you are ready when the opportunity arrives.

Formulation Development

Third-party testing also drives better product development. When your formulation team receives unbiased test data, they can objectively assess improvements rather than rationalising in-house results.
